Job Description

Position Purpose: 

2026 SUMMER INTERNSHIPS are available at Veolia North America in New York. Students will have an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in Customer Operations. Opportunities are available in the following areas: The Meter Intern will support the Meter Services department operations for Veolia's New York Municipal Water Division, gaining hands-on experience in water utility metering functions across Rockland and/or Westchester service areas. Working under the supervision of the Meter Operations Manager and Meter Services Supervisor, the intern will assist with various metering activities including the annual meter compliance program mandated by the NYS Public Service Commission, meter testing programs, new meter installations, and meter reading for the division's customer base. The intern will have the opportunity to learn about field operations, customer service coordination, regulatory compliance, backflow prevention programs, non-revenue water management initiatives, and key performance indicator tracking. This position offers exposure to both office and field service operations, providing valuable experience in utility operations, customer service, regulatory compliance, and cross-functional collaboration within a major water utility company.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Executes tasks directly related to functional projects and/or process improvements.
  • Communicates issues and roadblocks related to areas of responsibility.
  • May assist in research or special projects in a variety of areas in order to fulfill business initiatives and meet business objectives.
  • May be asked to interact with customers via phone, email, or in- person.
  • May be asked to prepare and deliver insights and recommendations based on analyses.
  • Produces findings and draws conclusions from analyses; Makes oral and written recommendations to management.
  • May be asked to perform field related duties, as assigned.
  • Internships are focused on learning and exposure to fundamental business processes and procedures.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background: 

  • High School Diploma/GED is required.
  • Working towards a four-year degree and you are a Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior or in recent grad status in a related major. Example: If the internship is in electrical engineering, you are a junior working towards an electrical engineering (or similar such as electronics engineering) degree.
  • Minimum of a 3.0 Cumulative G.P.A preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

  • Strong communication, written, verbal, listening, presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training: 

  • Valid Driver’s license is preferred.

Additional Information

Pay Range: $18.00 to $24.00 per hour.

Benefits: Interns are considered temporary employees. Medical and basic life insurance coverage is available to temporary employees scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week immediately following 60 days of service. Employees must elect or waive medical coverage within 45 days of their eligibility date.
