Job Description
The Lead Process Engineer’s job scope will span across both process and application engineering. Under process the individual will be responsible to fully develop and optimise process designs for integrated wastewater treatment with a focus on water reuse, MBR and advanced biological treatment solutions. The Lead Process Engineer will also support and trouble-shoot regional projects with effective management skills. The position requires a combination of technical process design expertise in wastewater, water reuse and biological wastewater treatment technologies along with application expertise in technical sales and building customer relationships. The position provides technical leadership within the Region. The individual will be actively supporting activities required to put together technical bids in reaction to customer’s Request for Quotation (the “RFQ”). He or she will be responsible for the process risk properly reviewed and mitigated with the defined risk management approaches. The successful candidate will also need to have a solid understanding and track record of working on complex scope and/or self-implement deals with site install (mechanical / electrical/civil). Candidates shall have strong broad-based technical capability in Waste Water treatment to integrate multiple unit process operations together, an excellent appreciation to negotiate technical terms with customers. Strong leadership and communication, and English language skills are essential as the Process Engineer will be working with diverse and geographically scattered teams of VWTS.
Essential Responsibilities:
Process scope
- Develop/ Review and Finalise of Process Designs (e.g.: firm and final budgetary proposals) for accuracy, competitiveness and compliance with design standards in the Region.
- Review final proposals and bid documents for tendered projects in the Region. Develop winning bid strategies and design concepts with Commercial Engineering and Sales team.
- Assist Commercial Engineering and Sales in strategic positioning of key projects in the Region.
- Provide expert advice and recommendations upon examination of treatability and optimized process design options for new projects.
- Participate in technical peer risk review within the design review team for projects, to ensure design optimization / value engineering
- Develop process designs and experimental program for water, wastewater and biosolids handling pilots. Review and approve operating changes. Review proposals prepared by Pilot Project Manager. Review and approve pilot reports.
- Develop/maintain relationships with key regional consultants.
- Assist Commercial Eng. / Sales team with sales calls and technical reviews with to clients, owners and consultants.
- Mentor Commercial Engineers in process design.
- Provide process design support (incl. Eng. calculations) to project execution team following project award as required:
- Prepare Process Descriptions, mass balance, equipment sizing
- Review Authorized Order (AO) package,
- Assist with timely preparation of control narrative, engineering drawings (PFDs, P&IDs Hydraulic Profile, Layout etc.)
- Participating and responding to HAZOPs, Design reviews, SIL reviews with customer.
- Provide process support and expertise during start-up, commissioning proof of performance test and operator training, as required.
- Provide process support / optimization and trouble shooting for existing plants as required.
- Provide support to Field Services team when required on a case by case basis.
- Continuously update information/knowledge of regulatory requirements within the region.
- Demonstrate knowledge of market dynamics, understanding of competitive landscape and products in the water, wastewater and biosolids handling industries within the region.
- Present Technical Papers at conferences or seminars.
- Document lesson learned from operating plants and provide feedback to Process Group and Engineering.
Qualifications
- Master’s in chemical or Environmental Engineering or other technical discipline
- Minimum of 8 years practical experience, preferable greater than 10 years in process design/engineering of water, wastewater and biosolids treatment systems with membrane-based technologies (UF/MBR, NF/RO) as well as biological processes and anaerobic digestion technologies. Minimum of 5 years’ experience of putting together proposals and detail design for RO/ED/UF/MBR projects involving multiple unit processes. Candidates with higher experience will also be considered suitably.
- Experience / Exposure to Regional / International projects related to wastewater treatment and reuse and advanced biological treatment.
- Understanding of regional wastewater, water reuse and biosolids handling market
- Demonstrated leadership style showing capabilities to accelerate change, work in a rapidly changing environment and operate independently to deliver business results.
- Capable of handling multiple projects in a fast-paced environment and prioritizing to meet business objectives.
- Fluent in English (verbal and written) is essential.
- Ability to travel regionally and internationally.
Desired Characteristics:
- Practical experience in process design and water/wastewater treatment unit operations.
- Use and apply biological modeling tools such as Biowin, GPS-X, SUMO, etc.
- Professional engineering designation
- Excellent quantitative, analytical, problem solving, communication, interpersonal, presentation, influencing, facilitation, and computer skills.
- Effective multitasking and ability to deliver on time and with quality
- Ability to make good business decision- Capable of understanding /requirements identified in the technical specifications

- Ability to manage multiple projects; prioritize workload, and delegate tasks to other process engineers as needed.
