Job Description

Position Purpose:

Performs a variety of chemical, biological, and physical tests required for research, development or quality control. Responsible for performing routine tasks and analyses on samples in accordance with company and regulatory requirements. May perform specialized analysis under the direction of the Plant Manager, Laboratory Manager or Laboratory Supervisor to support applied quality assurance and control procedures. Maintains the laboratory as directed for compliance with company hygiene plans.  Assists in special studies in the laboratory and possibly in the field.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Conduct all login procedures, both manual and electronic, of samples delivered to the laboratory, ensuring proper labeling, including maintenance of paperwork and logbooks.
  • Sub-sample a variety of materials, process and product samples and follow proper analytical methods required for compliance in accordance with established guidelines and training.
  • The primary function of the QA/QC Chemist is improving existing testing procedures with the goal of improving testing efficiency, accuracy, precision, and repeatability.
  • Resolves quality issues including instrument reliability, accuracy, precision, turnaround time, capability, and value.
  • Comply with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies in the disposal of hazardous waste materials.
  • Provide technical support and repair on analytical instruments such as PARR Calorimeters, Karl Fischer, Ion Chromatography, Closed Cup Flash Point, GC/MS, ICP-OES, Hydra AA – Mercury Analyzers, and Microwave Digesters.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background:

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or related discipline required. 
  • 2 or more years experience in the hazardous waste industry or related work experience preferred.
  • 1 or more years experience working with analytical instrumentation preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong team player.
  • Strong customer orientation.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple deadlines.
