Job Description

Position Summary

The Outside Sales Representative is responsible for driving new business growth and expanding market share within hospitals, healthcare systems, medical offices, laboratories, and other clinical environments. This role focuses on selling regulated medical waste, hazardous waste, pharmaceutical waste, and compliance solutions. The ideal candidate is a proactive hunter with strong relationship-building skills and a solid understanding of healthcare regulatory requirements.

Primary Duties /Responsibilities:

Business Development

  • Identify, prospect, and secure new healthcare waste customers (hospitals, surgery centers, labs, long-term care, specialty clinics, etc.).
  • Conduct territory planning, lead generation, and pipeline management.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with purchasing teams, environmental services, infection control, and compliance leaders.

Sales Execution

  • Conduct onsite customer assessments, waste stream evaluations, and pricing proposals.
  • Deliver professional presentations that outline service capabilities, compliance strengths, and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Negotiate contracts and close deals according to margin and revenue targets.

Account Growth & Retention

  • Expand service lines within existing customers (e.g., hazardous waste, pharmaceutical waste, trace chemo, sharps management).
  • Partner with operations to ensure smooth onboarding and ongoing service excellence.
  • Conduct periodic customer business reviews and ensure compliance with contract terms.

Regulatory & Industry Knowledge

  • Understand and communicate federal, state, and local regulations related to medical waste (e.g., DOT, OSHA, EPA, state health departments).
  • Stay updated on changes affecting healthcare waste handling and disposal.
  • Ensure customer solutions meet regulatory and environmental standards.

Reporting & Documentation

  • Maintain CRM pipeline, activity logs, and forecast accuracy.
  • Track territory metrics and performance goals.
  • Participate in ongoing sales meetings, training, and compliance certifications.

Qualifications

Education / Experience / Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent work experience.
  • 2–5+ years of outside sales experience (healthcare, environmental services, waste, industrial, or B2B solutions preferred).
  • Experience selling into hospitals or healthcare systems is strongly desired.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • Strong presentation and consultative selling skills.
  • Ability to build rapport with clinical, compliance, and executive stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of medical waste, hazardous waste, OSHA, and DOT regulations (preferred; training provided).
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and closing abilities.
  • Self-motivated with strong territory/time management skills.

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license; willing to travel within assigned territory.
  • Ability to conduct facility walk-throughs and assessments.
  • Comfortable working in clinical, lab, and operational environments.
  • Must pass background check and drug screening per industry standards.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications:

  • Experience with hospital purchasing groups or GPOs (e.g., Vizient, Premier, HCA).
  • Prior experience in environmental services, EHS, hazardous waste, or infection control selling.
  • Familiarity with RFP processes within healthcare systems.

Additional Information

Annual Pay Range: Minimum of $80000 to a maximum of $100000 per year.
