Job Description

Position Purpose: 

Responsible for the operation and maintenance of the City of Banning Wastewater Treatment Plant and related project facilities, ensure process reliability, assist in equipment maintenance activities and facilitate team objectives. Must learn, know and comply with all Safety requirements.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for operation and maintenance of treatment processes and related equipment in accordance with Client and regulatory agency requirements.
  • Monitors and evaluates treatment process operating parameters and automatic control functions. Proposes adjustments and makes adjustments, as directed.
  • Comply with all sampling, testing and documentation processes and procedures with accuracy.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves routine operational, equipment and instrumentation problems within treatment plant operations.
  • Assists in the start-up and initial operation of new or upgraded facilities within a treatment environment, as directed.
  • Implements standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety procedures, preventive maintenance procedures, operational and maintenance instructions and maintenance management systems at a treatment facility, as directed.
  • Performs routine monitoring and performance tests for treatment processes. Maintains written operating logs and lab data sheets.
  • Inspects equipment and performs necessary maintenance and repairs for treatment plant mechanical, electrical and instrumental equipment items, as directed.
  • Check and ensure vehicles are operating correctly. 
  • Familiarity and adherence to all environmental and safety compliance regulations.
  • Responsible for general housekeeping of job sites, work areas and other areas as assigned including sweeping, dusting, mopping, cleaning and painting as necessary to maintain areas to Company and Client standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Environment:

  • Work is performed both inside and outside with exposure to all kinds of weather conditions. 
  • Incumbent may be occasionally exposed to some noise, silica, dust, fumes, smoke, gases, greases, oils, electrical energy, solvents and vibrations. 
  • Incumbent may work on slippery/uneven surfaces, around machinery with moving parts, moving objects/vehicles, and ladder/scaffolding, below ground and may be exposed to water and other liquid materials.
  • On-Call Duty requires 24-hour stand-by/response to call-outs.
  • Live within 30 minutes response time to the Banning WWT.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background: 

  • High School Diploma/GED is required.
  • One year of experience as a Certified Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade I.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

  • Ability to learn and/or apply knowledge of and work in compliance with all client, industry, state and federal safety and environmental compliance regulations.
  • Ability to learn and/or apply a thorough knowledge of principles and practices used in wastewater treatment plant environments and related equipment.
  • Ability to learn and/or demonstrate proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office including Google,Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to learn and/or demonstrate accurate and standard laboratory sampling and testing.
  • Must be punctual and observe attendance policies.
  • Must act courteously and treat co-workers with respect at all times.
  • Must be able to follow all reasonable work rules and meet the essential functions of the position.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training: 

  • SWRCB Plant Operator Grade 2 Certificate.
  • State of California Class C Driver’s License.
  • Must be willing and able to obtain certification.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must wear uniforms and PPE at all appropriate times.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.

Additional Information

Pay Range: $30.00 to $35.00 per hour.
