Job Description

This position offers a pathway into Plant Operations. Employees who demonstrate strong performance, reliability, and initiative may be considered for progression into Plant Operator roles. Training will include exposure to process systems, equipment operation, troubleshooting, and safety practices within an advanced organics processing facility

The Junior Plant Operator supports daily plant operations through equipment operation, material handling, and general site support. This role is designed as an entry point into plant operations, providing exposure to processing systems, equipment, and operational procedures. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop into a Plant Operator role through on-the-job training, mentorship, and demonstrated performance.

Main Responsibilities: 

  1. Assist Plant Operators with monitoring and operation of processing systems (pulpers, grit removal, digesters, dewatering)
  2. Support routine operational rounds and equipment checks
  3. Participate in basic troubleshooting and reporting of process or equipment issues
  4. Assist with sampling, inspections, and process data collection
  5. Gain exposure to SCADA systems and process monitoring tools
  6. Assist haulage drivers at start of shift
  7. Using forklift, monitor and emptying of bins
  8. Assist on conveyor belt clean-ups
  9. Janitorial duties throughout the plant
  10. Maintain clean processing floor area
  11. Assist maintenance department as required
  12. Record daily instrument readings
  13. Assist machine operators, loader operators as required
  14. Clean work areas and equipment
  15. Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Experience: 

  • Post-secondary education or equivalent experience required.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience operating a counterbalance forklift in an industrial environment required; experience operating a telehandler is considered a strong asset.
  • Valid forklift certification (counterbalance and/or telehandler) is considered an asset.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience as a general laborer in a heavy industrial environment.
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn process systems
  • Experience with a variety of machinery, vehicles, material handling equipment, and hand and power tools is preferred.
  • Must possess strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to understand and follow operational, process, safety, and quality instructions.
  • Strong interest in developing a career in industrial, wastewater, or organics processing operations
  • Basic math and numeracy skills required.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to work effectively within a team environment and willingness to take on additional responsibilities as required.
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to take on increasing responsibility
  • Must hold a valid driver's license with a clean and safe driving record.
  • Must be reliable and punctual, as start and finish times directly impact overall operations.
  • Must be able to rotate throughout various areas of the facility as operationally required.

Work Environment: 

Permanent employment offered, on a full-time basis, with working hours from Monday to Friday. Shifts are the following: 

  • Shifts (2): Monday - Sunday; 5:00 AM– 2:30 PM & 2:00 PM – 11:30 PM, + Overtime; alternating shifts with two days off before rotation.

  • Fast-paced environment, Repetitive tasks, physically demanding, and attention to detail.
  • Can get dusty, recycling odour.
  • Transportation/Travel Information: Own transportation

Salary:

  • 20$/h - 25$/h
