Veolia Taiwan is excited to announce an internal opportunity for an experienced Legal Counsel to join our Asia legal team and Taiwan Business Unit. Based in Taipei, this role serves as a strategic business partner, integrating legal expertise with core business objectives to navigate complexity and drive responsible growth.
We are looking for a driven and sophisticated legal professional to take on this critical role, managing daily legal development activities, ensuring risk mitigation, and coordinating with the Asia legal team to achieve key milestones. Job Description
Legal Coordination and Strategic Advisory:
Coordinate any matter or subject with potential legal impact within the Business Unit.
Advise management and the business development team on project structuring (corporate and contractual structure), risk analysis, and risk mitigation mechanisms, providing professional and strategic insights.
Project Legal Management and Execution:
Supervise the legal follow-up of Projects and advise management on any day-to-day legal issues.
Provide legal services in developing and implementing water, waste, and energy projects in Taiwan, including but not limited to:
Reviewing and advising on public and private tender documentation.
Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating project contracts with commercial teams (e.g., EPC, BOT, DBOM, Services Agreements, O&M contracts).
Conducting and supervising external lawyers in arbitration and litigation procedures involving the Business Unit.
Conducting and supervising due diligence exercises.
Advising on and managing disputes.
Coordinating the appointment of external counsel.
Advising on general corporate/commercial matters.
Advising on and supervising the implementation of major Group policies.
Monitoring regulatory changes and advising management on the impact of such changes on the Business Unit’s activities.
Contractual Work Supervision:
Supervise contractual work done during the preparation and negotiation of contractual documents with public or private clients/suppliers.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
6-10 years of legal experience, including experience with reputable law firms and/or in-house legal departments of multinational corporations.
Proficiency in both written and spoken Chinese and English.
Familiarity with commercial law, contract law, project structures, foreign investment regulations, project documentation, contracts, and daily corporate governance practices
Preferred Skills and Knowledge:
Taiwan law jurisdiction qualification is a plus.
Experience in projects within the water, waste, or energy sectors is highly preferred.
