Job Description

Position Purpose: 

Under general supervision of the EPA Project Manager or other assigned supervisor, the Metering Technician will perform water flow meter replacements throughout the service area. The majority of water meter sizes will vary from ¾” to 1” however, may occasionally include 1.5” up to 4” size meter replacements. This position and the task has a deadline for completion under contract.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for safely removing old analog water flow meters and properly installing new AMR water meters throughout the public water system and water distribution service area.
  • Must ensure all safety and water quality procedures are followed as required by local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Must communicate with site management to schedule the meter replacements and work efficiently to achieve contract deadline by providing proper documentation and tracking of meters that have been replaced.
  • Must be willing to work overtime to offset any approved leave to ensure the contract deadline is met.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record to operate a company vehicle.
  • Willing to work alone with limited supervision and be productive, but know when to plan and ask for help.
  • Ensure no unnecessary damage to private property throughout the meter replacement project and ensure any unavoidable damage or situation is reported and resolved properly.
  • Understands that this position is separate from Operations and Maintenance and is limited to contract completion of the meter replacement project. Site management will meet with candidate prior to completion and review the individual’s performance to see if employment transfer or a permanent position is possible.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • At least two years of related field work experience or any equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Must pass security background check.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of working with hand tools, troubleshooting field problems and an ability to effectively work with limited supervision.
  • Basic data entry and computer skills including (Google Applications Docs, Excel, Word).
  • Understanding of basic water quality practices.
  • Strong customer relation and professional communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Honest, dependable, reliable, and proactive.
  • Willing to learn and grow as an employee and as a team.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training:

  • Valid state issued drivers’ license.
  • California Water Distribution Operator certification “Preferred”.

Physical Requirements:

  • The employee will need to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
  • The incumbent will frequently sit, stand, walk for up to 6-7 hours per day.
  • The incumbent will occasionally use fine finger movements and continuously use eye-hand coordination.
  • The incumbent will also bend, twist, climb, and reach above the shoulder to accomplish tasks.
  • The incumbent will have to use the proper PPE while completing tasks.

Additional Information

Pay Range: $33.65 to $38.46 per hour.
